What can I expect during my first appointment?
Your first therapy session is what we call an “intake” appointment, which is less about diving into deep processing right away and more about setting a comfortable foundation through a collaborative, four-part conversation.
We begin with administrative housekeeping, briefly reviewing your online paperwork and discussing the strict legal limits of confidentiality so you know exactly how your privacy is protected.
Next, we will explore what brought you here, using open-ended questions to understand your current situation, any past therapy experiences, and the specific symptoms—like anxiety, mood changes, or sleep disruptions—you are facing.
We will then gather a brief history of your background, including family dynamics, support systems, and medical history, always moving at your preferred pace so you only share what feels comfortable.
Finally, we wrap up by setting collaborative goals, mapping out exactly what you want to achieve—whether that is gaining practical coping mechanisms or simply having a safe space to process a major life transition—to co-create your personalized treatment roadmap.
